Creating a refined digital portfolio for a high-end interior design studio

Kestie Lane Studio is a high-end interior design practice based in Melbourne, known for thoughtful, confident, and enduring projects across hospitality, retail, workplace, residential, and multi-residential spaces.

Their work is built around authenticity, craftsmanship, and collaboration — bringing together clients, builders, tradespeople, artists, craftspeople, and consultants to deliver considered design outcomes.

As the studio continued to grow, their existing website no longer reflected the calibre of their work or the sophistication of their brand. Spacey Studios was engaged to redesign and redevelop the website from the ground up, creating a refined WordPress platform that could showcase their projects, highlight media and awards, and support future growth.

The Challenge

Kestie Lane Studio needed a website that felt as considered as the spaces they design.

Their previous website was no longer aligned with the studio’s modern brand direction and did not fully showcase the quality of their high-end interior design projects. The site needed to feel premium, minimal, and visually confident — allowing the project imagery to take centre stage without unnecessary clutter.

At the same time, the KLS team needed a website they could manage internally. New projects, media mentions, awards, and content updates needed to be simple to publish without compromising the design quality of the site.

The project needed to:

  • Reflect the studio’s high-end, design-led positioning
  • Showcase interior design projects with strong visual impact
  • Keep the interface minimal, refined, and easy to navigate
  • Highlight media features and design awards
  • Provide a flexible CMS for internal content management
  • Reduce double handling through dynamic content integrations
  • Create a polished responsive experience across desktop, tablet, and mobile

The Approach

Our creative direction focused on minimalism, consistency, and monochromatic design.

The website was designed around the idea that less is more. Rather than overloading the interface with decorative elements, we created a clean visual framework that allowed Kestie Lane Studio’s project photography to lead the experience.

A restrained monochromatic palette, spacious layouts, and subtle interactive details helped create a sense of sophistication without competing with the work. Every design decision was made to support the imagery, guide the user, and reflect the quiet confidence of the studio’s interior design approach.

From a content perspective, we structured the website to make key areas easy to explore — including project pages, media features, awards, and studio information.

Image-Led Website Design

The website was built around high-quality project imagery.

For an interior design studio, photography is one of the most important storytelling tools. It communicates atmosphere, materiality, detail, and the emotional quality of a space in a way words often cannot.

We designed project layouts that give the imagery room to breathe, using clean compositions and generous spacing to create a gallery-like experience. This allowed visitors to move through KLS projects with minimal distraction, while still having access to relevant project details where needed.

The result is a website that feels calm, polished, and highly visual — a digital portfolio that reflects the quality and restraint of the studio’s work.

Custom WordPress Development

The website was developed on WordPress with a flexible content management system tailored to the needs of the KLS team.

Using Advanced Custom Fields and WPBakery Builder, we created a structure that allows the team to manage pages, publish projects, and update content without needing development knowledge.

This gave Kestie Lane Studio the ability to maintain the website internally while preserving the refined design system. Project content, imagery, media mentions, and awards can be updated more easily, supporting the studio as its portfolio continues to grow.

Interactive Details & Dynamic Content

To create a more engaging digital experience, we introduced subtle interactive elements throughout the site.

Animated splash screens and interactive hover effects bring movement and polish to the interface, helping the site feel more immersive without overwhelming the user.

We also integrated a live Instagram feed, allowing the site to automatically display KLS’ latest social content. This helps keep the website feeling current while reducing double handling for the studio team.

These details add depth to the website experience while staying aligned with the studio’s minimal and refined aesthetic.

Responsive Experience

The website was carefully designed and developed to work beautifully across desktop, tablet, and mobile.

Interior design portfolios often rely on large-format imagery, so responsive adaptation was an important part of the project. We needed to ensure each image, layout, interaction, and content section remained elegant and usable across different screen sizes.

The final experience flows smoothly across devices, allowing visitors to explore Kestie Lane Studio’s work whether they are browsing from a desktop, phone, or tablet.

The Outcome

The final website gives Kestie Lane Studio a refined, elegant, and easy-to-manage digital presence.

It better reflects the quality of the studio’s work, creates a stronger first impression for prospective clients, and provides a flexible platform for showcasing projects, media, awards, and ongoing studio updates.

The website balances visual sophistication with practical content management, giving the KLS team the ability to keep their portfolio current without relying on developers for everyday updates.

Most importantly, it gives the studio a digital presence that feels aligned with the way they work: thoughtful, confident, crafted, and enduring.

Reflection

Kestie Lane Studio was a rewarding project because the visual direction was so closely tied to the quality of the client’s own work.

When designing a website for an interior design studio, the website should not compete with the spaces being showcased. It needs to create structure, rhythm, and atmosphere — then step back and let the work speak.

That balance was one of the most enjoyable parts of the project. The minimalist, monochromatic direction gave the site a premium and gallery-like feel, while the imagery brought warmth, texture, and personality into the experience.

We were also proud of the way the site worked behind the scenes. For a small creative studio, being able to manage content internally is incredibly valuable. By creating a flexible WordPress setup, the KLS team could update projects, media features, awards, and page content without compromising the visual consistency of the site.

The client’s feedback made the project especially meaningful. Hearing that the process felt seamless, the backend was simple to use, and the final website reflected them as a design studio reinforced the value of combining strong design with practical usability.

For us, Kestie Lane Studio is a strong example of how a website can elevate a creative business without overcomplicating the experience — refined design, thoughtful functionality, and a digital presence that lets the work shine.
