Spacey Studios is a dynamic and fast-growing design agency based in Cremorne, the creative hub of Melbourne. Since our establishment in early 2019, Spacey Studios has been dedicated to delivering top-quality creative solutions, specialising in Graphic Design, UI & UX Design, Website Development, Brand Development, and Print & Production Solutions. With a diverse clientele in retail, education, professional services and more, we engage in exciting projects offering creative freedom across various industries.

We operate in an ever-changing industry, so as a result, we need some additional hands on deck that we can call on from time to time when things get busy. We are looking for freelance contractors to add to our roster that are readily available to work with Spacey Studios on Website Development projects, when required. This will typically involve custom WordPress and Shopify websites, so understanding in HTML, CSS, Liquid and PHP is essential. JavaScript (JS) is also a very favourable skill to hold.

This is an adhoc freelance opportunity to Australian residents with a valid Australian Business Number (ABN). We are not looking to partner with other agencies or large design teams at this time.

Experience in the industry and a demonstrable portfolio is crucial, as we do not provide training prior to project commencement.

Role Description

As a Freelance Website Developer specialising in HTML, CSS, Liquid, JS, and PHP Coding Languages, you will play a pivotal role during our busiest periods. Your technical skills and creativity will be utilised across various CMS platforms, including WordPress and Shopify websites. From ecommerce sites to unique business websites, you will work on a diverse range of digital projects with our team.

Collaboration is at the heart of our agency, and you will work closely with the Director, UI & UX Designers and other Developers to support the projects reaching completion. From time to time, you may be required to engage directly with clients, actively participating in the briefing, concept design, and consultation phases. Your ability to distil feedback and deliver concise work in alignment with brand style guidelines, tailored to the client’s unique requirements, will be pivotal. Additionally, you may be called upon to contribute to our in-house digital presence periodically.

Attention to detail is vital in maintaining the high standards we set for our work. Therefore, you will be expected to follow our project management processes diligently, utilising appropriate software for tracking, monitoring, and communicating all work. Version control across files and drafts will be essential to maintain organisation across all projects.

Proficiency in HTML, CSS, Liquid, and PHP Coding Languages is essential. You should also have substantial experience working with WordPress and Shopify platforms. Figma is the primary software that we use for User Experience & User Interface Design, so it is essential that you have a sound understanding of this tool to bring our designs to live. Additional experience in Webflow would be favourable for some web-based projects.

This will be a remote opportunity and you will need to be equiped to work from home or your own workspace. If you live in Melbourne, you may have the opportunity to work with us in-person at our office in Cremorne, Victoria on occasion.

Main Duties / Responsibilities

• Advanced proficiency in HTML, CSS, Liquid and PHP coding languages.
• Proficiency in JavaScript (JS) coding languages (preferred by not essential).
• Extensive experience with WordPress and Shopify platforms.
• Proficiency in Figma for reviewing UI & UX Designs to bring them to life during development.
• Experience with Webflow software will be favoured.
• Excellent communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with the team and clients. You should be able to convey ideas, measure your performance, provide rationales, and distil feedback.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, either in-office or remotely, while adhering to Spacey Studios’ work ethics and deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to think creatively and logically.
• Excellent time management, problem solving and organisational skills.
• A diverse portfolio of work that you can show to us during the application process.

Requirements

• You must have an active Australian Business Number (ABN).
• You must be an individual freelancer, not a design agency or team of creatives.
• You must have a portfolio with proven experience in the creative industry.
• You will need to provide us with tax invoices for work carried out.
• As a freelancer, you will need your own device and software. We can negotiate access to certain software, if required.
